Over the last year, free agency has become one of the leading stories in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). That doesn’t look to change anytime soon. Especially after recent news that Rory MacDonald may be headed to Bellator and Donald Cerrone has re-signed with the UFC. With those recognizable names off of the board, we open up our MMA free agent watch files on another available talent: Lorenz Larkin.

MMA Free Agent Watch: Lorenz Larkin

Larkin became a free man following his upset victory over Neil Magny at UFC 202. He took the fight on short notice and earned an impressive (T)KO finish in the first round. Magny was a fighter many viewed as on a path to title contendership as he aimed for his fourth win in a row against Larkin. So by beating Magny, Larkin steals some of the steam his opponent had mustered and goes into free agency on a two fight winning streak and his value at a high.

“The Monsoon” hovered around the 205 pound division for much of a his career until recent years. After Brutal losses to much larger men in Muhammad Lawal (which was later turned into a no-contest) and Costas Philippou, he has found a home at welterweight. Going 4-1 since the move, with wins over the previously mentioned Magney, Jorge Masvidal and John Howard.

Larkin seemed confused by the UFC placing his last fight on their Fight Pass prelims broadcast. He is a former employee of Strikeforce, meaning he has had a relationship with Bellator President Scott Coker. If Bellator is willing to show Larkin the money, his history with their top executive, matched with this recent slight by the UFC, could push him in the direction of a new employer.

We asked our Twitter followers where they think Larkin would end up. The majority felt “The Monsoon” stays in his current home. Maybe with some new relevancy the UFC promotes him more to his liking.
